Obolon - Zorya 0:2 (5th round, August 30, 2024) - Match review
The fifth round of the Ukrainian Premier League began amidst the excitement around transfers and the results of the Eurocup draw. However, the teams that opened the football weekend, Kyiv Obolon and Luhansk Zorya, had no time for these discussions. Both teams found themselves in difficult circumstances. Obolon was looking for positive results, and Zorya was adapting to recent management changes.
From the first minutes, Obolon actively went forward and already at the start had an excellent opportunity to distinguish themselves, but Sukhanov's shot flew over the goal. During the first half, the hosts created several dangerous moments, but were unable to convert them into goals. Zorya took advantage of their chance in the 19th minute: Michin finished a pass from the right flank with a shot into the near corner, putting the guests ahead.
The second half was fatal for Obolon. In the 52nd minute, Budkovskyi doubled the score, finishing a cross from Antyukh after a mistake by defender Dubko. Soon Dubko received two yellow cards and left the field, leaving his team in the minority.
Zorya controlled the match until the end of the game, and although they had several more chances to increase the score, they did not use them. Obolon could not counter, and the result of the match emphasized the crisis of the team under the leadership of Valeriy Ivaschenko.
In the next round, Obolon will play at home against Oleksandria, and Zorya will host Dynamo Kyiv.
