In the fourth round of the 2024/25 Bundesliga, Augsburg and Mainz will meet at the WWK Arena. Both teams are looking for stability at the start of the season, and this match will be an important opportunity for both to strengthen their positions in the standings.

Augsburg, under the leadership of Jess Thorup, are showing productive but inconsistent football. The team started the season with a 2:2 draw against Werder Bremen, then suffered a crushing defeat at Heidenheim (0:4), but was able to rehabilitate themselves with a 3:1 win at St. Pauli. Summer changes in the squad, including the sale of key players Ermedin Demirovic and Arne Engels, meant that the team needed time to adapt to the new players. The latest victory should give the Fuggers confidence, especially before the home match against a team that has not yet found its game.

Mainz under Bo Henriksen have had a poor start to the season and are yet to win. After being knocked out of the German Cup in extra time by third division side Wehen Wiesbaden, the Carnival team drew with Union (1:1) and Stuttgart (3:3), where they showed character by coming back from 0:2. However, the defeat to Werder (1:2), despite having a numerical advantage at the end of the match, left Mainz without a win and set the team up for serious changes. Problems with converting chances and an inconsistent defensive performance cast doubt on their success in the upcoming match.

Augsburg will enter the field as favourites thanks to their home advantage and their latest win, while Mainz will try to correct their mistakes and finally achieve their first success of the season.
