Match review

Manchester City secured a comeback win over Brentford in the fourth round of the Premier League with a score of 2:1 thanks to a brace from Erling Haaland. The game started shockingly for the hosts, when Brentford opened the scoring in the 23rd second: Keane Lewis-Potter passed to Yoann Wissou, and the ball ricocheted off Ederson's hand and flew into the goal.

Manchester City quickly increased the tempo and in the 25th minute Haaland equalized the score, scoring a powerful shot after turning in the penalty area. And just 13 minutes later, the Norwegian scored a brace, taking advantage of a long pass from goalkeeper Ederson, who had rehabilitated himself after an error at the beginning of the game. This assist was already the fourth in the Brazilian's career in the Premier League.

After that, City controlled the course of the match and had several opportunities to increase the lead, but the game ended with a minimal victory. Late in the match, Ukrainian Yegor Yarmolyuk came on to make his debut in the 2024/25 Premier League season for Brentford. In injury time, he had a chance to equalise, shooting from the edge of the penalty area, but the ball went wide of the goal.

Manchester City have collected maximum points in four rounds and remain in first place. The team has important matches ahead next week: first against Inter in the Champions League, and then against Arsenal in the Premier League. Brentford will play Tottenham in the next round.
